Welcome to the MiSTI Collaborative Authoring Wiki.

This tool is intended to provide means for authoring documents by a group of people in a logical and controlled fashion eliminating the need for cross-emailing multiple versions of the same document and circumventing the document management hassles and the need for specialized software.

As with any social endeavor, there is a structure and there are rules:


Management Structure

Wiki Admin - Manages the wiki, creates and removes users and sets permissions

Document Admin - The person charged with production of the document

Section Admin(s) - Person(s) charged with producing specific sections of a document

Contributor(s) - Person(s) with edit rights for specific sections and/or pages

Reviewer(s) - Persons who may view a document but have no editorial rights

Document Editor - The person charged with producing the final print-ready document


Rules

Only people having authorization to view or edit a document will be able to view or edit that document.

All documents must have a solid, final outline prior to addition to the wiki. The outline is an essential part of the layout of the document and assignment of roles (Document admin, Section Admin, etc.)

Given that this is an online medium, there are a number of limitations that must be dealt with. This requires that there be specifications for each document that contributors are expected to follow. Specifications will include items such as the font used in charts, the use of colored graphics, the format of uploaded graphics, etc. Final document layout and flow will be the responsibility of the document editor and there will be a means for communicating your needs and desires to that person.
