Lapmaster 12 Operation and Maintenance[edit]

LapMaster01.JPG
The Lapmaster 12 is located in the sample prep lab, M&M 715. It's purpose is to lap (polish) the face of samples using grinding media suspended in water slurry. It consists of a media mix tank and a rotating lap plate. A total of three separate 4" X 3" samples may be lapped simultaneously. The flatness of the cast iron lapping plate is maintained at a maximum difference in elevation of 2 micrometers between the innermost and outermost edges.

The current machine was recently acquired and procedures are being developed as operation is somewhat different from the previous machine.
